In celebration of MerMay we are going to do a Mermaid Scales watercolor. For this tutorial I'm using Daniel Smith watercolors as well as metallic watercolors from Art Philosophy / Prima Marketing. This is a real-time tutorial where you can join me as you do your own piece. So, let's get started on bringing this scale to life.

_Glass of Water
_ Mixing Palette
_ Pencil
_ Paper Towel
_ Eraser
_ Watercolor Paper – I use Canson XL 140lb / 300g
_ Watercolor Brush – Round -1 Large & 1 Medium Brush – A Small can also be useful – Fine Tip
_ Pink Zig Memory – Dual Tip
_ Uni-Ball UM 153 Signo Broad Point Gel Pen

Watercolors Colors Used:

Use What You Have. For best results, use professional grade watercolors. I Used the below watercolors for this watercolor tutorial.

1. Daniel Smith Watercolors – Colors Opera Pink, Quinacridone Rose and Quinacridone Violet

2. Art Philosophy / Prima Marketing – Plus their Metallics Set That Includes – Pink and Gold

Make It Your Own: Feel free to pick your own colors. One Light-tone, one Mid-tone and one Dark-tone in the same color family. Then see what you get. Each of our projects will be different, but similar.
