Raised Planter Boxes

Hey Everyone!

With spring in full swing, I need to get my garden ready for this years veggies. I decided to move the entire garden from one side of the yard, to closer to the house for easy watering. This year, I decided to go small because I haven't been having too much luck with maintaining too many veggies.

With the price of wood, I had to make a choice on how I wanted to build this thing. It was going in a place where it would be visible for everyone to see. So I wanted to make it pretty but still functional. My first choice was to make this out of 1x6's but have you seen the prices?! Holy G! So I decided to build everything out of cedar picket fences which cost less than $4 a picket. Still higher than before, but better than paying $10 a board. For the legs, I was going to use 2x4s, but again the cost. So I decided to purchase 1x4s and cut them down to 1x2s & 1x1s so I can make sturdy L shaped legs.

So I'm not going to tell you this was an easy build because of all the boards I ended up cutting, but if you were to buy 1x2s, 1x1s and the cedar pickets, you would spend a small fortune on planter boxes. but, really, if you didn't have to do all the cutting, this is really a simple design and build.

For 1 5ft planter box, I used 5 (6) pickets and 2 1x4's which cost me about $35, which is not bad. I ended up building 3 boxes total of different sizes.
