Music can be understood as the art of combining sounds over time and its main characteristics are rhythm, melody and harmony. According to Willems (1969), each of these aspects has its specific performance: the rhythm primarily in the body (in the movements), the melody in the emotions and the harmony in the intellect. Studies show that music can favor the maintenance of mental health, the prevention of stress, the relief of physical tiredness and the induction of relaxation (Voss et al., 2004; Dobbro et al., 2005; Fonseca et al., 2006; Krout, 2007; Gonçalez et al., 2008). It is increasingly noticed that music has important consequences for the emotional and cognitive development of the individual, which leads us to reflect on its use as a therapeutic resource.
