Gold leaf on 5th Avenue NY - ArtCase Restorations

5th Ave, also known as millionaire row, is well known for its opulence and shopping. What is not known by people who are not in the know, is that 5th avenue is also home to many exclusive clubs. These clubs have opened their doors to countless wealthy upper classes through the years. Big names to have walked through the doors of these clubs, include; Ronald Regan, Thomas Eddison, Nicola Tesla and many many more.

High-society events which take place at these elite venues include Weddings, Gala-dinners, and Business or Social events.

These clubs are places of power and thus have had many interesting antiques added to their collections through the years. I have spent many years in these institutions, not as a member but as a restorer of their precious and unique pieces.

One particularly grand project I have undertaken, was in The Metropolitan club. This project was a renovation of The President's foyer, on the second floor. This is where all the oil paintings of Presidents reside. My brother Boris and I worked for three months to complete the restorations work needed.

We prepared the moldings for restoration by cleaning, fixing and in some places rebuilding the Stucco, with campo and Jesso. All of this work was in preparation for gold leafing and gold leaf restoration. We used 23-carat gold leaf in our biggest project that year, by way of the quantity of gold leaf used. We also restored the beautiful skylight and its gold leaf. This was the biggest restoration project in the world that year and it won an award.
