Canon City, Colorado - Historic Downtown
Canon City, Colorado was incorporated on April 3, 1872. This mountain town is located in the Arkansas Valley at the eastern mouth of the Royal Gorge and straddles the Arkansas River right at the basin of the mountains. Canon City relies on correctional and tourism industries. I come here often with my family. The scenery takes my breath away.
When my family and I first moved moved to Colorado, we stumbled upon this great tourist town. We decided to explore what was on Highway 50 going west from our home. It was a beautiful drive. Once we saw the sign, we were in awe with the scenery we saw along the highway.
The Historic downtown has lots of restaurants to choose from to eat at. Take a stroll along Main Street and check out their shops. You will find the locals might strike up a conversation with you. It's a family friendly destination.
