20210423 Illegal Speech - The Daily Summation

Should it really be a particularly significant thing that some robed individual, seated in his or her lofty perch thinks it POSSIBLE my words could be a cause of incitement? What about some "jury of my peers"

In MY way of looking at things, they should be required to prove that my statements DID incite action on the part of others.

In fact, even if they DID, it should be a requisite that I INTENDED TO CAUSE the incitement that occurred by my words.

For any other purpose (barring things like disturbing the peace--and we should be quite careful dealing with things like that), the idea of illegal speech seems inconsistent with not just the ideas enshrined in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, but maybe more importantly, the idea that a person should have the right to speak his or mind.

On top of that, hearing folks speak, lets you know with whom you're dealing.

I talk about these ideas in this edition of The Daily Summation from Kurt's Religion and Politics.

When I'm able to complete the companion article on the Kurt's Religion and Politics blog, I'll post a link to it here.
