How to make healthy decisions (when we're worried or feel anxious) | Stop Worry and Anxiety Series

If we are to be successful, we need to learn how to make healthy decisions, even when we are worried or feel anxious!

Growing up in an abusive environment, I didn’t know how to make healthy decisions. I was told, over and over again, “Life is tough and people will hate you and try to destroy you.” Of course, I could tell this is not true, so I couldn’t trust what I was being taught. I ended up believing that my feelings were some sort of guidance system and that I could trust them. I thought my feelings reflected the reality, so I followed what felt good and I avoided what felt bad.

I didn’t know it at the time, but once I left my parents’ home, I started developing complex post-traumatic stress disorder and social phobia. And as I kept giving into my negative emotions, especially my anxiety, I kept isolating myself more and more from life and everything around me, until I ended up being afraid to leave my apartment or talk to anyone, and eventually, on the brink of divorce.

I then learned that Jesus teaches us in the Bible all the life skills we need to live successful lives, but when I started following Him as His disciple, I didn’t know I could be totally free from all my issues and symptoms and problems. I would have been happy just to live a bearable life, not constantly feeling anxious, uncontrollably angry, and envious of everyone else.

And of course, Jesus teaches us how to make healthy decisions – and this is what changed my life, and helped me to see the Truth, just as He promises us in John 8:31-36. He set me totally free, and a big part of it was my learning to make healthy choices even when I was battling worrisome thoughts or feeling flooded with anxiety!

I hope you enjoy this video and find it helpful, and I hope it encourages you to start taking the necessary steps to turn to God first, and to permanently get rid of any worry or anxiety influencing you today! Because getting rid of such emotional garbage will help us to not only be able to feel loved by others in whatever love language they may be speaking, but it will help us to be able to be more loving towards them in all the love languages, and therefore be successful in all areas of our lives!
