Hunza is a district in the northern part of Gilgit-Baltistan, famous for its extraordinary natural beauty. Hunza was a princely state until 1974. "Gilgit-Baltistan is administered by Pakistan and subject of a dispute between India and Pakistan since 1947" (Wikipedia).
Hunza Valley is located centrally in Hunza, enclosed by the snowy peaks of the Karakoram mountain. The ancient Altit and Baltit forts in Hunza Valley, nearby Hunza's capital Karimabad (Baltit), have significant Tibetan architectural influence. The highest peak of the Karakoram mountains - Rakaposhi 7,788 m/ 25,551 ft is visible from Hunza Valley, it is notable for rising 5,900 m/ 19,357 ft in only about 11 km/ 7 mi from the Hunza River. The scenic Karakoram Highway is the main road crossing Hunza (continuing into China).
