Azure Storage - Data Box Family

When you are  moving to Azure from your legacy environment you will need to move the data to Azure Storage.  Microsoft provides us with different tools.  In this video, we will look at Data Disk Family of products.

Azure Data box is used in the lift-and-shift migration scenarios.  This is a service that we can use to move terabytes of data , up to a petabyte of data.  Data Box disk is the first tier of this service.  It allows you to migrate from 8 to 40 TB of data.  When you order the Data Box disks it is shipped to you with a container that has 1 to 5 SSD drives.  These disks are using RAID 5 so you will lose up to 1/5 of the storage for the parity information.  You will connect these disks using a USB cable and upload the data to enclosure.  The data on the drive will be encrypted using BitLocker.  Once you have finished uploading the data then you will ship the enclosure back to Microsoft.  Microsoft will then upload the data to your storage account.  They will unencrypt the data using the BitLocker key that is stored in the portal.
