5 Things You Didn't Know About Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock is easily one of the most likable women in Hollywood. She's one of those people who does a ton of good for the world but doesn't feel the need to broadcast it. She does it because it's the right thing to do. You probably didn't realize that she has literally donated millions of dollars to the Red Cross after horrible disasters like Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Harvey, and the Indonesian Tsunami.

She was the rom-com starlet we all needed starring in hit films like Miss Congeniality and The Proposal. The actress has developed a passionate fan base over the years and cemented herself as a Hollywood A-lister. While we're partial to her comedic roles, Bullock has also proven that is just as skilled in dramas, starring in everything from legal thrillers to playing an astronaut in space. The woman can quite literally do anything.

Here are some things you might not have known about the beloved actress.

1. Both of her children were adopted from Louisiana

After hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Bullock just had a feeling that was where she was going to find her child. A few years later she adopted a baby boy she named Louis Bardo Bullock. A few years later she adopted a 3-year-old girl who had been living in foster care, daughter Laila Bullock.

It's really a beautiful thing to see a prominent celebrity like Bullock be open about adoption and fully embracing her new role as a mother. You can tell how much she loves her children when she speaks about them in interviews.

"When I look at Laila, there's no doubt in my mind that she was supposed to be here," Bullock, who in 2010 adopted son Louis, told The Today Show. "I can tell you absolutely, the exact right children came to me at the exact right time."

Though you rarely get to see her kids, Laila made a special appearance on Bullock's Mother's Day interview on Facebook's Red Table Talk.

2. She was once the highest-paid actress in the world

In 2010 and 2014 Bullock was the highest-paid actress not only in the country but the entire world. 2014 was a great year for the star as she had received Oscar buzz for the second time around for her role in the space thriller opposite George Clooney, Gravity. That year she was paid a whopping $51 million, which

3. She's dating a photographer

Bullock has been dating photographer Bryan Randall since 2015 when he was hired to take photos for Bullock's son's birthday party. The two keep their relationship private and the most you'll really see is a family outing to Disneyland together.

4. She had a dramatic ending to her marriage with Jesse James

Shortly after winning the Best Actress Oscar for her role in The Blind Side, it was revealed that Bullock's husband of five years had been unfaithful. Celeb relationships are hard because you're in the spotlight with endless paparazzi pics surfacing left and right. It was a painful experience for Bullock but it led her to adopt her son later that year as she and James had already started the adoption process which continued with after the breakup.

5. She's a genuinely nice person

Birdbox co-star Sarah Paulson told People Magazine that playing Bullock's sister in the thriller was incredibly rewarding. The actress knew everyone on the set and was incredibly gracious with her time.

“It was an incredible thing to see someone who is at the top of their game who has been at the top of their game for a long time, and who is always meeting with a kindness and awareness of other people,” Paulson said.

6. She's really into real estate

In addition to owning multiple properties in Los Angeles, the actress has really gotten into investing in properties around the country. She owns homes in Austin, New York City, New Orleans, Georgia, and apparently even Jackson Hole.

7. She has a restaurant in Austin

Apparently starring in Hope Floats really made Bullock love the state of Texas. Like fellow Hollywood star (and ex-boyfriend) Matthew McConaughey, Bullock spends a lot of time in Austin and even had office space for her production company set up. She was previously the owner of a fine dining restaurant in downtown Austin called Bess Bistro, which has since closed. But Walton's Fancy & Staple is still booming, also downtown. It is a lovely little deli and shop just down the street from where Bess used to be.

8. She's too lazy for social media

Being a major Hollywood star is stressful enough so we really can't blame Bullock for opting out of social media. Though it would be fun to get more glimpses of her family life behind the scenes, it's refreshing that she keeps her personal life the way it should be...personal.
