Logs in Azure Monitor are useful for performing complex analysis across data from a variety of sources. They contain different kinds of data organized into records. The records contain different properties. If you have used SCOM in the past this is similar to this concept. Logs can contain numeric values like Metrics but usually contain text data with detailed descriptions. The further differ from metric data in the structure and are often not collected on a interval (time-series) like metrics. Telemetry information is usually captured in Logs. This information can be used for forecasting , deep analysis and reporting. A common log would be an event that was executed on a the Azure environment , such as creating a new VNET, VM, storage account etc. It could also track the changing of role definition or membership. The Azure Monitor Logs is a tool that can be used for auditing and implementing compliance within your Azure environment. These logs can be then stored for longer periods of time within a storage group, sent to log analytics or streamed to an Event Hub. You can also query it using the Azure Data Explorer. That is what we look at in this video.
