If prepardenss is the goal I would highly encourage the following:
1) Raise animals that can be pasture raised.
2) Convert low quality grass to high quality pasture grass.
3) Convert green space into food space (your fancy trees and bushes may look cool but food is better)
4) Invest in fruit bushes and trees
5) Make the most of compost for your more omnivorous livestock.
