Magnetic Boat Experiment of Spinning Up and Stopping

Here the 4 3/4 ounce magnetic boat is made to spin to it's top speed and then the rotation of the magnet is stopped.

The magnet is a powerful compass and is turned by remote control on a servo. It is able to push against Earth's magnetic field because of the torque ratio between magnets which is 1/distance as opposed to the attraction between magnets which is only 1/distance^3.

It is seen the stopping of rotation doesn't seem to do much but the speeding up of the rotation in two successive rotations with the magnet not turning except with the boat seems to push the boat along to the south.

This aligns with the principle shown in a prior video where the end of the magnet away from the heavier side of the boat makes the boat rotate while the other end of the magnet nearer the heavier part of the boat makes the boat go in a line.

Stay tuned:)
