Kansas City To Remove Homeless Camp Outside Of City Hall

A Large Homeless Camp That Sits Right Outside Of City Hall In Kansas City Is Going To Be Removed This Weekend - Because It's Become A Public Health A Safety Risk.

According To City Officials, Reports Of Criminal Activity From The Homeless Camp Are On The Rise. Officials Say They've Found Weapons Including Firearms At The Camp - Causing A Safety Risk For Residents Of The City.

In Addition, Officials Say That Human Waste, Bodily Fluids And Other Trash, Garbage And Needles Have Created Health Risks Not Only For City Residents, But For The Homeless People Who Are Living In The Large Encampment.

The Conditions Prompted Someone From City Hall To Post An Ordinance At The Camp - Saying Tenting On Any Un-enclosed Lot Is Prohibited.

A City Spokesman Also Said “It Is Time For People To Start Taking Advantage Of Existing Services In Shelters And At Non-profit Agencies.”

The Homeless Camp - Which Sits On The Front Lawn Of City Hall - Started Out As A Protest Then Became More Permanent.

Many Of The Protesters / Homeless People Are Refusing To Leave Or Take Advantage Of Public Aid That Is Being Offered.

According To The Us Inter-Agency Council On Homelessness, As Of January Of 2019 There Were About 6,100 People Experiencing Homelessness In Kansas City With Many Experts Saying That Providing Free Housing To The Homeless Does Not Help The Issue - Recommending Instead - That Officials Provide Work Options And Low Cost Housing To Help The Homeless Become Productive Members Of Society.
