Just spending a day at the state park. Jonathan Dickinson is one of Florida's largest state parks at 10,500 acres of wildlife refuge, hiking trails, bike trails, horseback riding, and recreational camping. The Loxahatchee River runs through it allowing visitors a place to swim, kayak, and fish. The history of the park goes back to 1696 where Jonathan Dickinson, a merchant Quaker, shipwrecked nearby. During WWII the park was known as Camp Murphy, a military training base for top-secret radar at the time. In the 1950s the land was sold back to the state of FL and became Jonathan Dickinson state park.
