Richard Bliss Brooke was raised in central California on a large cattle and horse ranch. He learned to love the natural order of things but did not learn much about people. He barely graduated high school and went to work at Foster Farms, the largest chicken processing plant in the world at age 18. He was introverted and cynical. The Chicken plant was a good bet for his career.
