American Lie

This is a work in progress. Especially given how hoarse my voice is right now. My hat tip goes to ArmyVet ᴹᴿᴱ ᶜᵉʳᵗᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ. He wrote something with American Pie a few days ago, which got me thinking of this.

A long, long time ago
I can still remember how the people
Loved our country so.

And we knew if we had our chance
That we could make our factories dance
And maybe we’d be happy for a while

But covid came and all got quiet
The virus spread along with riots,
The election stolen from us,
We don’t see any justice.

I can't remember if I cried
When I watch the country deeply slide
Something touched me deep inside
The day our country died.

So, now we’re living an American Lie
Drove my Chevy to the station but the price was too high
And leftists are laughing who sold us out dry
Singin', everydays’ the day that we lie.
