A three-year-old girl has managed to walk away from what could have been a horrific incident after she was caught in the tail of a kite and thrown violently into the air.

The child was at the 2020 International Kite Festival in Hsinchu City, Taiwan yesterday when strong winds swept through the festival.

The tail of the orange kite somehow became wrapped around the girl’s stomach and she was dragged into the air.

Footage from the event showed onlookers screaming and holding their hands up to try to grab the girl as she was carried away by the massive kite.

The kite violently swung her around for a few seconds before a person on the ground managed to pull the girl down. The group who had been running after the child then managed to catch her.

Despite the horrifying footage, Taiwan News reported the girl walked away with only a few scratches to her face and neck.
After the incident, the event was immediately called off and the city’s mayor Lin Chih-Chien later apologized on Facebook.

“The city government team offers its sincere apology to the victim and the public,” he said.

Authorities will investigate the incident to make sure it doesn’t happen again in the future.

Hsinchu City, in the northeast of #TaiwanFestival , is known for its high winds.

However, event organizers said they weren’t expecting the strong gusts experienced over the weekend.

The kite festival was celebrating its fourth anniversary this year which attracts more than a dozen professional kite flyers from around the world.
