Miraculous Event on Mount Athos

Ceaselessly continues to swing back and forth the icon of Jesus Christ as High Priest in Provata, Mount Athos. The hagiography stands at the “Bema Door” of the Sacred Cell (kalyvi) of Holy Trinity, where father George Alevras - a spiritual child of Saint Porfyrios- practices.

The icon begun to swing in the period between the 20th and 23rd of November 2019.

The icon of Christ started to move by its own again, non-stop this time, from Saint Lazarus Thursday (just before Easter of 2020).
The Elder of the Cell, hieromonk George, during the Holy Week informed in written about this miraculous fact the Administration and the Ecumenical Patriarch, as the spiritual leader of Mount Athos.

The Sacred Cell of Elder George was visited by the Protos (superintendent) of Mount Athos, the Abbot of the Sacred Monastery of Megisti Lavra, fathers from many Cells and Hermitages of Mount Athos, the Commander and Vice-commander of the Police Department of Karyes, and, finally many pilgrimages and people, who saw the icon moving with their own eyes. Apart from that, it was recorder by journalists of a nationwide TV network and made a newspapers front page.

It was attempted to stop the movement of the icon, which –after stopping- started to swing again by itself with greater tension.

Moreover, candles were put in the circumference of the Bema Door in order to check for air flow currents. The flame remained stable, while the icon continued its movement.

On February the 14th 2021 a group of police officers visited the Cell for a second time in order to see this great event by their own eyes.
A week later, on February the 22nd, police officers appeared for a third time, asking to stop the movement of the icon by hand. They did it, but in a few seconds the icon started to move again intensely in a miraculous way. They asked for forgiveness for their little unfaithfulness like Apostle Thomas.

As they walked away they said to Elder George how proud they are for what they had witnessed and the fact that it happens at the place they serve.

They were happy, having the hope that High Priest will restore the disorder that devil has caused to the people.
