DOMUS story 2 - Making of bricks and basement herringbone floor
In this second chapter we get to the heart of the work by watching the making of the bricks and their first practical use, the flooring of the basement. I've already dedicated a couple of videos to this topic (you can find them in the "Tutorials" playlist), so on this occasion I'll just follow the operations carried out in chronological order.
Later I'll abandon the use of DAS to make real clay bricks, more realistic and closer to the original materials. But we'll talk about it in due course.
A few words about the flooring, which follows the herringbone pattern typical of many ancient floors, or what the Romans called "opus spicatum". The bricks are laid on the thin edge and the spike composition fills the entire floor except for a single strip that follows the perimeter and the slab of the pillars.
The glue used for the laying is very common vinyl glue, while the filling is made with a cement grout (quick-setting cement + water) which on this occasion is a bit dense and forces me to make a second pass before the final sanding.
