The carcará is easily recognizable, when perched, due to the fact that it has a kind of black skullcap on the head, as well as a hooked and high beak, which resembles the blade of a cleaver; the face is red. It is covered in black on the upper part and has a light brown combination with black stripes, of the carijó / pedrês type; long, yellow paws; in flight, it resembles a vulture, but is recognizable by two light-colored patches on the tips of its wings The carcará is not, taxonomically, an eagle but a distant relative of the hawks. Unlike these, however, he is not a specialized predator, but a generalist and opportunist (as well as his close relatives, the chimango and the red-tailed hawk)
