Colossians is a letter to a small Christian community about 100 miles from Ephesus. There are questions about authorship. It reflects the epistle for Ephesians. Were it written by Paul, it was probably written in the sixth decade, when Paul was imprisoned in Rome. Chapter 3 is structured as the old self, the new self and Christian homes.

This verse is about the new self. Life's trials are not about making one hard and bitter. We are challenged, we survive and we can offer the lessons of love written in verse.
