Into The Night MIDI

This is a piece from 2004. I had already graduated from college with a BA in Humanities in 2003, and started substitute teaching in the spring of 2004 at one school district, then in the fall at another. There was a time I had thought about adding a third school district, but I was getting called in fairly regular at the schools I was already substituting for, with quite a few teachers having me as a preferred call in. It prompted me to return to classes by around 2005 to look into getting a MA in education. Needless to say, that didn't work out, but that's a story for another time.

By 2012, after going through one year of service in a local AmeriCorps group tutoring grade school kids between 2008 - 2009, after treading water through the Recession, taking odd jobs and testing the waters with potential alternative careers, I had decided to try and refresh my love for music and composing. I was also in a creative mood on other fronts, such as RP in Second Life, trying out managing a private Open Sim grid, developing virtual clothing products, as well as creating my personal feline/neko character named Iohannes. I had a few other characters, including a couple female characters used for modeling feminine apparel I would try to make. So yeah, I was learning a bit about how to create a 3D model, then how to dress the model, building on previous virtual photography skills to learn how to edit and seam skins and clothing for the model and the apparel.

In consideration of the various phases of my life after college, and trying to find my place in the world, I would say 'Into The Night' took on various interpretations for me. Initially, it was something like my attempt at a song like Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Music of the Night', but a bit more rock in flavor. In the four note arpeggiation of the repeating chorus of the song you can hear the title, "Into the night." Beyond that, I can't remember any other words. Either the lyrics got lost, or there never really were any.Either way, this piece does have a sense in the melody hidden words of a lyric. I just wish I knew what they were, and I'm the one who created the song! Maybe the lyrics might come to me some day. Who knows?
