The "Hymn to Liberty" or "Hymn to Freedom" (Greek: Ὕμνος εἰς τὴν Ἐλευθερίαν, Hýmnos is tin Eleftherían; or Ὕμνος πρὸς τὴν Ἐλευθερίαν, Hýmnos pros tin Eleftherían) is a poem written by Dionysios Solomos in 1823, inspired by the Greek War of Independence. It was set to music by Nikolaos Mantzaros. In 1865, the Hymn to Liberty officially became the national anthem of Greece.

(English Lyrics / Translation)
I recognize you by the fearsome sharpness,
of the sword,
I recognize you by your face
that hastefully defines the land

From the sacred bones,
of the Hellenes arisen,
And valiant again as you once were,
Hail, o hail, Liberty!
