During World War I, women could not join the Army, but there was a need for skilled telephone operators in Europe. General “Black Jack” Pershing recruited 200 American women who were fluent in both English and French. The women who became known as the “Hello Girls” paved the way for the many generations of #WomenInTheArmy.
