A New Study Released By The Centers For Disease Control And Prevention Indicates That About 78% Of People Who Have Been Hospitalized, Needed A Ventilator Or Died From Covid-19 Were Overweight Or Obese.
According To The CDC About 42% Of The U.S. Population Was Considered Obese In 2018. The Agency Defines Overweight As A Person Having A Body Mass Index - Or BMI - Of 25 Or More, While Obesity Is Defined As Having A BMI Of 30 Or More.
According To The Study - Which Looked At 238 Hospitals - Among The Nearly 150,000 People Who Were Diagnosed With Covid During An E.R Or Inpatient Visit From March To December, About 71,000 Were Hospitalized. Of Those, About 28% Were Overweight And About 50% Were Obese.
Obesity Is Considered To Be A Chronic Disease That Is Both Common And Costly.
According To The CDC, Non-Hispanic Black Adults Have The Highest Rate Of Obesity In The U.S., Followed By Hispanic Adults And Non-Hispanic Caucasians.
