Bicycle chain lube rewaxing cookup
86
Here I show how I use paraffin wax from candles to lubricate my chains, with just a little oil added - here I am using ATF for its red color. Too much oil will make the lube attract dirt and get 'gunky' - defeating the purpose of using wax. 100% wax works fine.
My experience with using wax to lube my chains is extrememly good. It has reduced my chain maintenance and also the mess, by a great deal. I will not go back to using oil for exposed chains. I buy pillar candles for the wax as it is my cheapest option where I live.
Many decades ago, it was pretty normal to lube a chain with wax, on a cooker, in a kitchen. Bicycle lube companies get very upset about this, and may even try to discredit the use of wax to lube chains.
