Two New York City Councilmen Indicted On Charges Unauthorized Possession Of Ballots And Falsifying
Two City Council Members In New York Have Officially Been Indicted On Charges Of Voter Fraud.
According To The Attorney General Alex Mendez And Michael Jackson - Both Democrats - Were Indicted For Allegedly Interfering With A Special Election Last Year.
Mendez Won The Special Election Back In May But Allegations Of Voter Fraud Started Circulating.
After U.S. Postal Service Inspectors Said They Found Hundreds Of Mail-in Ballots In A Single Mailbox In Patterson And Even More Were Found In Another Mailbox In A Nearby City, The State's Attorney General’s Office Started An Investigation .
Among Other Issues That Were Found, The Ballots, Which Were Collected And Delivered To County Officials By Both Men - Which Is Illegal - Lacked Identification Information.
The Men Are Also Accused Of Harvesting Ballots And Mailing Them In Bundled Packs.
As A Result The County Board Of Elections Decided Not To Count 800 Ballots And A Judge Ordered A New Election For Last November.
Despite The Pending Criminal Charges Mendez Won The Election In November.
The Indictments Charge Mendez And Jackson With Election Fraud, Unauthorized Possession Of Ballots And Falsifying Or Tampering With Public Records.
If The Men Are Convicted They Face Up To 10 Years In Prison.
