Rush Limbaugh titled his daily radio broadcast (His Broadcast Empire for that matter) as an excursion into Broadcast Excellence: Excellence In Broadcasting. It is where I got the idea for the title. I'll share my thoughts about Rush Limbaugh and the influence he had on me for 30+ years, in a future Vlog for certain. So much to cover...so much for which to be indebted. Rest in peace Rush.
This video is a bit of a departure from my regular series of info/op packed videologs. Every now and again, I'll likely share something like this from my life with the hopes that you the viewers will indulge me. The video will be a snipit of either a hobby, my job (picking), family, our dog Leia...anything really. Just some day-in-the-life thing. I'll try to keep them short. I wish I knew where I picked up the royalty free music bed on this cut. I paid for it's license several years ago while producing/directing one commercial or the other. I'd like to give credit to it's writer. If I can ascertain it down the road, I'll edit this description and include that information.
IN THIS VIDEO: These hens of ours are 'New Jersey Giants'. They are sisters. We acquired them all at the same time when they were pre-teens. It took me nearly a week of evening-chases to finally train them to go into the coop by themselves at night. It took about three months or so for them to start producing eggs. They are a funny bunch. There is a 'leader'. She was the hen that first produced and then a week or so later the other three followed her 'lead'. She is the one featured in the video that takes the two orange-halves from her feasting friends. Not shown in the video is her also tipping them over so they couldn't be eaten, in the event she was off somewhere else scaring up worms. She's a sly one. She also sleeps by herself up in the 2nd floor roost while the other three all huddle together down below in the evenings.
Owning chickens is cathartic and stress-leaving. Any moment of the day, one can enter the free-range, toss some seeds, a pumpkin/squash quarter, salad leftovers from family dinner and watch the appreciative fowl make quick work. Feeding is easy, cleaning the coop a little less-easy. Training Leia (our Labrador-Daschsund mix) not to kill them was fairly easy...after a few tasty mouthfuls of feathers. Now she hangs out with them but only while I am alongside her inside the range area. The hens are getting braver these days and Leia is occasionally frightened if all four hens happen to pause and simultaneously stare her down for some reason or other. As the hens get older, they seem to get much more brazen. Leia can sense it, LOL.
Hope you all enjoy watching the video as much as I did making it. Ar at least maybe 1/2 as much. I'll soon be uploading another more serious videolog on any of the many pressing and critically important news/civic events occurring daily in our country. Please stay engaged and share your information...your news...with those you love. Remember, we are all Patriot Journalists. Like Scott Goulet of 'Front Page' says, "If you love them, they deserve to know the truth".
