With social distancing guidelines implemented across the U.S., the IG Brown Training & Education Center at McGhee-Tyson Air National Guard Base found an innovative way to carry out a long standing tradition. TEC-University staff worked with personnel from the 113th Wing Public Affairs unit in Washington DC to coordinate a virtual change of command broadcasted via Facebook and the Warrior Network on Vimeo.com. On February 26th, friends and family watched from home the guidon passing from the TEC’s 15th commander to the Air National Guard readiness center commander and back to the 16th commander of the TEC. The passing of the guidon represents a transfer of responsibility. The guidon in this virtual ceremony was in two locations at the same time, Washington DC and Knoxville, TN. The virtual change of command provided a symbolic gesture while keeping an audience of nearly 300 people safe from catching or spreading COVID-19. Reporting from McGhee-Tyson Air National Guard Base, Tennessee, I’m Master Sgt. Erik Gallion.
