African leaders demand vaccine handouts with easing of Intellectual Property rights

John Nkengasong, Director of the Africa CDC and Prevention is leading calls for companies that spent billions of dollars researching and developing vaccines for COVID to release their IP so that South African and Indian generic manufacturers can undercut them and make money, under the guise of addressing "huge inequalities in global public health. He incorrectly attributes IP protections as the proximate cause of low availability of early ARV medications in Africa (circa 1995-2006). Most African leaders (and Africans themselves) were in denial about HIV /AIDS. Thabo Mbeki and his idiotic health minister Manto Tshabalala Msimang prevented the used of AZT and nevirapine in South Africa. Stigma is the reason HIV drugs were not widely available, not IP protections.
