Solar System Activity for Kids

You need a big space (and nice weather, preferably). Write the names of the sun, planets, asteroid belt, and Kuiper Belt on separate pieces of paper. Start with the sun at the beginning, and measuring 3 ft per step, place the planets in order this many steps from the sun:
Sun-start
Mercury-1
Venus-2
Earth-2.5
Mars-4
Asteroid belt-7
Jupiter-13
Saturn-24
Uranus-49
Neptune-76
Kuiper Belt-100
There are so many different ways to illustrate the distance between the planets. This is just one, and my kids ran up and down the driveway, pretending to be on a rocket ship traveling through our Solar System. They had fun!
