Pendulum Magnet 19@3_4X1_4N52 on 8 Inch Aluminum Pan

I am using an 8 inch diameter aluminum pan for the boat floating in a water tank with several inches of water in it and raised above the floor by about 17 inches so as to be away from any magnetic hot spots that might be near nails and such under the floor.

There are 19 N52 3/4 inch diameter by 1/4 inch neodymium magnets stacked on top of the thin wood disc. These are very powerful magnets and I wear gloves when I work with them.

The weight of the entire boat is 711 grams or about 1lb 8.5 ounces.

I clocked from 1:05 to 2:05 the boat went 10 to 11 inches. In the first 30 seconds from the time the magnet is moved by the servo controlled by an IR remote the boat goes about 2 inches.

There is more drag from the water because the boat weighs more than the version with 1/2 inch neodymium magnets so is deeper in the water. Also it has a greater mass that it must accelerate because the 1/2 inch magnets weigh 6 grams each and there were 16 of them but now the 3/4 inch magnets weigh over 13 grams and there are 19 of them.

With an earlier experiment with the 3/4 inch magnets in the 9 inch aluminum pan the boat was much slower.

My claim is that the compass power of the magnets turns the boat around the magnets' center but the boat has a tendency to turn around its center of mass. Since the two centers of rotation compete a heavier or more massive portion of the boat swings like a pendulum pulling the boat north (to the left of the screen.)
