Gold Reserves vs Currency Reserves by Country since 1960

31

This bar chart race compares the annual gold reserves in percentage of currency* reserves by country since 1960.

Total reserves comprise the gold holdings, special drawing rights, reserves of IMF members held by the IMF, and holdings of foreign exchange under the control of monetary authorities. Currency reserve is the total reserves minus gold reserves, vice versa.
* Note that special drawing rights (SDR) is not a currency per se, but a claim to currency held by IMF member countries for which they may be exchanged.
