Mother of Twins--Diastasis Recti Repair Surgery--Two Week Post-Op
I am so excited to share my 2 week Post-Op video!!
In any tummy tuck/diastasis recti repair, it is possible to have a suture break. That is why it is SO IMPORTANT to choose a surgeon who has safeguards in place to make the surgery a success in spite of this reality.
Now I am finally able to shower! I was so blessed to have the support I did during this challenging time. My sister-in-law and my husband helped me immensely as I recovered, while my mother and sister helped with our daughters at home.
Seromas are also something to be very aware of! They occur usually when the patient is overactive too soon after surgery. A seroma is a pocket of fluid that forms around the surgical site--fluid formation that is VERY DIFFERENT from the typical swelling that occurs with surgery. Seromas need to be drained by the surgeon to prevent any issues.
After removing my binder for showers, my stomach did start to swell even more than before. I started to feel pressure around my hip area because of swelling buildup. I was afraid I had a seroma, but luckily I did not. I told you in the last video I started to miss my drains--and this is why!
I had been trapping the natural fluids from swelling that occur after surgery in my hip area because I was still elevated at all times when lying down, even after being told it is OK for me to lie my torso down flat. Once I adjusted to lying my torso down flat, keeping my legs elevated, I started to feel relief. Directing the fluids from swelling upwards helped these fluids cycle out of my body instead of staying trapped in my hip area. What a world of a difference! This is the only moment where I did miss my drains, as they had kept this fluid moving out of my body throughout the entire first week after surgery, instead of trapped within. I am so grateful I did not have a seroma, although when caught early they can be corrected quite easily!
Traveling home was also an adventure! I am so thankful that when booking my ticket home, we requested the wheelchair service at the airport. They wheeled me throughout the airport all the way up to the plane on every leg of my flight. This is a MUST! So worth it!
Once I arrived back home, it was time for more resting and healing for another 4 weeks! Stay tuned for my 6 week Post-Op update!! Thank you for watching :)
