In honor of Black History Month, the National Guard participated in a worship service focusing on Black history at Memorial Chapel at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall on Feb. 14, 2021. Chaplain (Col.) Myrtle Bowen is the Air National Guard assistant to the command chaplain, Africa Command. She previously served as the 113th Wing, D.C. Air National Guard, chaplain. Bowen calls Black History Month a time to “reflect, educate and inspire.” February marks Black History Month, a federally recognized, nationwide celebration paying tribute to the generations of Black Americans who have played a role in shaping U.S. history.
