Interview with Seann Dikkers of MACHE - Minnesota Association of Home Educators - about HF 874 (the Page Amendment). The Page Amendment is the proposed MN State Constitutional Amendment.
HF 874 states - All children have a fundamental right to a quality public education that fully prepares them
with the skills necessary for participation in the economy, our democracy, and society, as
measured against uniform achievement standards set forth by the state. It is a paramount
duty of the state to ensure quality public schools that fulfill this fundamental right.
The Amendment has bi-partisan signers but MACHE has serious concerns about it eliminating their previous hard-won battles. The bill was partly authored and is being promoted by Minneapolis Fed’s Neil Kashkari and former Minnesota Viking and MN Supreme Court Justice, Alan Page. Homeschoolers are concerned about the Bill’s impact on educating their children. The bills authors and sponsors see it as a way to close the achievement gap in the public school system.
