Chopin - Prelude in E Minor
At it's surface this piece looks really basic and uninteresting, but it really exemplifies Chopin's ability to emphasize the importance of dynamics beyond just the notes in music. Learning the notes of this prelude is trivial even for late beginner/early intermediate pianists but being able to phrase the notes and bring out the true depths is no small challenge.
It is said that Chopin asked for this prelude to be performed at his funeral, which makes the melancholy in it that much heavier for me... personally, while I'm playing this it almost feels like I am there to witness the end of a remarkable genius...
So there's my daily dose of depression, hope you enjoy!
