The Making of “Just a Little Bit”

The essence of the AT HOME project was to capture the sound and energy of music being created live in a home—the natural root of all music. Many times over the years, my home has been filled with musicians and singers for massive jams and singalongs, and that big, joyous sound was what I was looking to recreate.

As writer and producer I decided to invite a gang of my musical friends and make a party of it with food and good times for all!

“Just a Little Bit” is a classic, soul-filled, call-and-response song that required a core band (drums, bass, guitar), my lead vocal, and three groups of three singers each to fill out the other vocal parts. In order to do this live, we had to rehearse—and then disperse throughout the house into different rooms, filled with mics and cables.

We performed the song just a few times until we got the version we wanted. All real, all live!
