Romans 3 - Justified by Faith
Paul writes this letter to the Christians in Rome and he emphasizes that one is justified by faith (alone). It is true, of course, that believers are justified by faith, but it's not altogether correct to assume that it is our faith that justifies us.
In fact, it is God who has been faithful to mankind, not the other way around
When God made a covenant promise to Abraham, that through him all nations would be blessed, God kept that promise even though Abraham's descendants constantly fell short of the glory of God. Paul reminds his readers of this when he says, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
It's not just the Jews who fall short, though they were the ones entrusted with the oracles of God, and it's not just the gentiles who fall short, it is all men who fall short.
How can one be redeemed to God if we all fall short? Well, it by faith in Jesus Christ which is only possible because of the faithfulness of God and because of God's grace. Without God's grace, the faith of man would not count for anything.
We are truly blessed that God would count the faith of man as righteousness and allow for the redemption of man through the sacrifice of His own Son, Jesus.
