05 February 2020: President Donald J Trump was acquitted of two impeachment counts brought by the Democrat-controlled House: (1) an alleged quid pro quo with the Ukrainian government to investigate now-President Joe Biden and (2) obstructing Congress in its efforts to investigate the alleged abuse. Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no proof that President Trump colluded with Russia and also did not find him guilty of obstruction of justice.

13 February 2021: Donald J Trump was acquitted of an impeachment charge of “incitement of insurrection” in relation to the January 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol. The U.S. Senate determined that former president Trump was not guilty of impeachment charges brought by the Democrat-controlled House.

The second impeachment marked the only time a president had been through this process twice and exonerated twice. A conviction would have meant Donald J Trump could not run for presidency again. His acquittal leaves the door open for a potential run in 2024.

In a statement shortly after the vote, former president Trump said, "It is a sad commentary on our times that one political party in America is given a free pass to denigrate the rule of law, defame law enforcement, cheer mobs, excuse rioters, and transform justice into a tool of political vengeance, and persecute, blacklist, cancel and suppress all people and viewpoints with whom or which they disagree. I always have, and always will, be a champion for the unwavering rule of law, the heroes of law enforcement, and the right of Americans to peacefully and honorably debate the issues of the day without malice and without hate."
