The legal team criticized the case against him as politically motivated “hatred” and part of a yearlong Democratic “witch hunt.” Lawyers for the former president told senators that Trump was allowed to dispute the 2020 election results. Trump’s team also argued that a speech that Trump said before the assault on the Capitol, did incite the violence that followed. Then the Trump’s lawyers have opened their arguments in the impeachment trial with a direct attack on Democrats. Arguing that Trump did not incite the Jan. 6 insurrection of his supporters at the U.S. Capitol, lawyer Michael van der Veen said that the trial is “constitutional cancel culture” by Democrats trying to retain power. (The Democrats whole impeachment plan depends on the fact that Trump caused the riots) He played a video of Democrats calling for protests after Black men and women were killed by police officers and objecting to Trump’s election in 2017. Impeachment manager David Cicilline (D-RI) said “He(Trump) dialed Senator Lee by accident, and Senator Lee describes it that he had just ended a prayer in the Senate chamber.” Rep. Cicilline said that Trump asked Tuberville to “make further objections” to Biden’s electors as Senator Lee “stood by.” Senator Mike Lee said, “Statements attributed to me moments ago by the impeachment managers, statements relating to the contents of the conversations between phone calls involving Trump and Senator Tuberville, were not made by me, were not accurate.” Senator Lee shouted at Raskin as he tried to excuse the lies spewed by the impeachment managers. Rep. Raskin admitted that his Democrat cohorts had been peddling fake news and agreed to withdraw the quote. To make it worse, Rep. Eric Swalwell got caught using a photoshopped tweet at the impeachment trial on Wednesday. Eric tried to build up his performance by reading Trump’s tweets to build a picture of who Trump really is. He quoted a tweet, but the problem was that it was a photo shopped tweet that was not real. Now that person, Jennifer Lynn Lawrence, is calling them out, “I’ve never been verified on Twitter so why did my Tweet used in the fact-free impeachment include a verification badge? I’m assuming Democrats faked it like they are faking the whole case. @RepSwalwell why did you add a verified badge to my tweet in your presentation?” Democrats cheated on the election and now they are trying to cover it up by this sham impeachment case BASED only and only on one issue. That the Capitol riot was Trump’s fault.
