The male's head is surmounted by a long horn curved backwards, hence its vernacular name of rhinoceros ('rhino', nose; 'ceros', horn). Pendant for the mating season, I use it as a weapon for the soul of all opponents as they throw it into the sun to avoid having to go towards the female. The latter has no horn.It thrives in decaying plant matter, generally feeding on wood. She lives between earth and rotting wood, in the rotting parts of old trees and dead leaves. When ripe, it measures 60 mm in length.
The adult emerges in spring and lives until autumn. It is observed especially during the months of June and July. He is not very active.
