115 Year old Monarch Lathe 9_15_2019
I picked this Monarch Lathe up last year I didn't know much about it when I bought it, and it wasn't even wired up to run. My best friend Steve who went to Rochester Institute of Technology for Electrical Engineering did the wiring of the motor for single phase and did most of the cleaning to this machine. While he was doing the cleaning I was researching the history and found the Patent that gave most of the information I needed. I was surprised to learn it was built in Sidney, Ohio and is the lathe all other change gear lathes were designed from I had to replace the 4 jaw chuck and buy some other cutting tools from that era. Then I went about setting it up and finding the run out. I wish I would have gone to school to be a machinist but I started in college at Penn State Behrend for Mechanical Engineering Technology. Its my first lathe so I'm still learning.
