Part 2 of this series on the Book of Daniel concerns his prophecies for Jerusalem. Daniel, along with a number of other teenagers, had been taken in 604 BC to Babylon after the fall of Jerusalem to Nebuchadnezzar. There he made a name for himself after correctly interpreting the king's dreams. In 539 BC, by now an old man, he witnessed the capture of Babylon itself to the army of King Cyrus of Persia. Anxious to know what fate would befall the Jews, he consulted the Prophecies of Jeremiah. There he read an outline prophecy that they captivity would last for 70 years. He asked God and his angels to elaborate on this. Accordingly, he received a whole set of prophecies concerning the holy city, Jerusalem, and its fate. We examine these here.
PS At one point I make reference to the 'Yom Kippur War' between the Israelis and Arabs. I should have said the 'Six Day War' as this is the one that took place in 1967. The Yom Kippur War was in 1973. My mistake, I apologise.
