Mostly driving to different sites associated with McConnell's Mill State Park, today's cold temperature, ice, wind, and crowds made finding parking harder than usual. This gorge contains Slippery Rock Creek, during the last ice age during the Pleistocene Epoch the glacier that covered this area its theorized through evidence in the rock and strata that there was a glacial lake contained by glacial basin and when wall broke it released a torrential amount of water very rapidly carving this section of what is now this gorge from South to North actually flowing in reverse of what the water travels today. Then when the glacier melted and retreated to the North the water flowed from North to South further eroding Slippery Rock Gorge and creating this steep creek loved by kayakers, white water canoers, and climbers from rocks to ice. This is a nature lover’s paradise with areas of danger and history.
