Does God Give Us Specific Detailed Plans to Follow?

Each of us would like to know exactly what to do, the specific job we're supposed to have, the identity of those we're supposed to meet, and precisely when things will happen. It would be nice of God gave us a 1, 5, or 10 year plan. If we're going to follow Jesus, should we expect God to provide us specific, detailed plans outlining what we ought to be doing each day, week, month, or year?

The short answer is no. Following Jesus is not about first getting a divine daily planner and following that. In Matthew 16:24-28, we learn that following Jesus is about denying ourselves, taking up our crosses, and following Jesus. This means not trying to have control, making Jesus our top priority, and doing what Jesus did.

In this video I discuss Jesus' teaching on following him, talking about what it means and doesn't mean. I also briefly refute some common false teachings about following Jesus.
