S2E43. July 23, 2019 - Looking for Queens!

7/23/2019 – Checking #3 & #4 for being queen right (after OTS split) and taking honey. Pulled 9 frames of honey, mostly capped and no drops using the shake test. However, there was capped and open brood in the honey super above the queen excluder (how did that happen?), and they seemed to have consumed and/or moved honey out to make room for more brood. Did not find a queen in the honey supers, but found what could have been a sickly looking queen on second inspection and dispatched her (not on video). I don’t think it was really a queen. Will have to re-check.
#3 – Found queen and a lot of capped brood, open and eggs. On video you see her on last frame of top box, but I didn’t see her, and looks like she dropped into second box and then I find her (I hope that was the same queen
and not 2 in same but I guess the bees will figure that out) I also marked her.
#4 – Found queen in top brood box. Marked her. Lots of capped brood, open and eggs. Released queen into the bottom brood box.
#3 and #4 need to be split into 10 frame brood boxes! I Need to build all the parts. They are about to explode!
Feels like the summer dearth is here or close, with honey supers on I don’t feel good about open feeding.
They are not taking the pollen from feeder, as the hives had a ton of pollen inside.
