Negotiations are over on the COVID-19 stimulus package, and it’s 100% partisan. So much for unity.

Today on Sekulow, we discussed President Biden’s decision to go it alone on the COVID-19 stimulus.

Senator Mitch McConnell said the following on the floor of the U.S. Senate this morning:

"The American people deserve for the conversation about the next steps to begin with them and their needs. Not partisan rush jobs, not talking points, we need to start with the needs of our country. The most recent package, another $900 billion was literally passed six weeks ago, just six weeks ago."

Senator McConnell also talked about “unity” yesterday:

"The new President talks a lot about unity, but his White House staff and congressional leadership are working with a different playbook."

It appears all of President Biden’s statements calling for unity and the pledges that he would be a President for all Americans are out the window. They talked about compromising and getting together to resolve the differences to come up with a COVID-19 relief package. That clearly isn’t happening now.

I fully agree that a COVID-19 relief package should be the number one priority right now. The problem is the method in how it is handled. The negotiations between the Democrats and Republicans, which really focused on a difference of around three hundred dollars per individual and four hundred billion dollars in aid to states that were already in trouble before the COVID-19 pandemic, have broken down. The talk about unity is complete and over. President Biden and the Democrats in Congress have decided to get this done as part of a process known as budget reconciliation.

ACLJ Senior Counsel Andy Ekonomou talked about how President Biden and the Democrats plan to ramrod this through, obliterating any unity talk in Washington:

"There is no bipartisanship anymore. This idea that we’re going to come together, that President Biden was holding out the olive wreath to the Republicans, that they’re not going to be fighting but working on a bipartisan basis, and that there’s going to be congressional unity has been completely put aside. The America Rescue Act is going to be forced through the process of budget reconciliation, which is a highly partisan way of doing things. It was used twice before in recent times and it looks like it is going to be used again – shoved down our throats."

The end result of this is going to be a bailout for states like New York and California. The problem is these states were mismanaged way before COVID-19 hit the United States.

We’ll continue to keep you updated on the latest news regarding the COVID-19 stimulus package and congressional action.

The full broadcast is complete with much more analysis and discussion about the latest news regarding the COVID-19 stimulus package. We were also joined by ACLJ Special Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell (former Ambassador to Germany) to discuss the demise of America First and the rise of Germany First in the standoff with China.
