SERMON NOTES

You Can Trust God Even When Others Don’t
(I Kings 18:36-37)
'And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, “Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”'

I. God Gives You Wisdom and Insight (I Kings 18:20-24, Proverbs 1:7)
• Good Morning! Today we are taking a look into another moment in Elijah’s life! And if I can say this about Elijah, there was never a dull moment.
• Last week we introduced the opposition that Elijah was facing…the king, the queen, the false prophets, and this false religion.
• Elijah calls the people on their indecisiveness. This is not something new. Listen to this word from (Joshua 24:15). On this occasion in Joshua the people decide that they are going to Follow God.
• But here we see that people have doubt about God. They are doubting in their hearts about who God is.
• So, Elijah decides that in order for the people to see and know that God Is Who He Is, he decides to put the opposition to the test!
• This is going to be good!

II. The People Try To Prove Their Right! (I Kings 18:25-29, Exodus 20:3-6)
• So, the prophets of Baal prepare the sacrifice. And as they do Elijah is intently watching!
• He already knows how this is going to work out, but they have to go through this in order for them to understand that what they have done is bad.
• Listen to what God says in Exodus! God makes it perfectly clear to us what’s ok and what isn’t.
• See unfortunately people are going to deny what the truth is, and they are going to try to explain why they are right. It is the age-old thing. Expound.
• Then Elijah lets them know that they are not giving it their all! See how intense they are trying to prove they are right! They are hurting themselves in order for their god to answer. It’s called not wanting to “Take that “L”
• That is not how God works. Aren’t you glad that that is not how He operates! You don’t have to physically mutilate or disfigure yourself for God to answer.

III. God Sets The Scene! (I Kings 18:30-35, Mark 10:27)
• Now It’s Elijah’s- I Mean God’s Turn!!
• God is thorough to make sure that everything is right.
• Look what God is leading Elijah to implement in the construction of the alter.
• Then listen to what Elijah instructs the people to do!
• Now when you hear all that not only has been performed but for how long the wait has been many people are probably saying there is no way that this is going to work! But see remember WHO IS IN CONTROL!!
• Listen to this truth found in (Mark 10:27).

IV. God Proves That You Can Trust In Him!! (I Kings 18:36-40, Romans 12:5, Psalms 1)
• Elijah is now is calling on God to let them see His power firsthand. He is communicating with God and he is giving God centerstage!!
• Elijah is also letting the people and God know that he is committed to God. He is letting the people know that even if no one else believes in God, he will and does!!
• Friends, I want you to know that sometimes you may be the only one in a place who is holding up the LIGHT! HOLD IT UP!!! Remember, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! God has given you backup!!
• Now watch how God shows them WHO HE IS!

V. God Is Waiting For Your Response! (Revelation 3:20)
• Look at what the people’s response was!
• And look what Elijah’s response to this was!
• So, what it your response today? Are you ready to let go of the things that are not beneficial and place your hand, your life in the Nail-Scarred Hands?
• Read (Rev. 3:20). Let’s choose Jesus today!!!
